LEAD AND RADON SERVICES
Lead
paint was used prior to 1978.
Many products including paint can contain lead.
If the paint contains greater than 0.06% lead, it is considered
a lead based paint product.
The health hazards associated with lead have been known for
a long time. It is
now understood that the recognition and management of lead containing
materials requires knowledgeable and experienced engineering and
health professionals. Personnel
certified by the EPA as building inspectors, risk assessors and
in-place management planners are available to provide engineering
surveys, inspections, management plans, designs and training.
EEC provides lead-related services to public and private
schools, day care centers and public building owners.
We will work closely with architects and engineers to form
a total project team.

All
of our samples are analyzed by an AIHA ELPAT approved laboratory
as required by EPA. Where
lead abatement is recommended, detailed plans and specifications
for the lead abatement projects are developed as per HUD, OSHA,
EPA and State of North Carolina guidelines and regulations.
EEC staff will set up prebid conferences for the selection
of the lead abatement contractor and conduct an on-site orientation
to fully acquaint the potential contractors with the project.
Appropriate submittals are reviewed for compliance with the
specifications and plans.
EEC provides on-site monitoring of the project and collects
outside area samples to ensure that lead contamination is contained.
A thorough final visual inspection ensures that all lead
based paint materials have been successfully addressed.
Final air samples and wipe samples are collected to verify
that the lead abatement contractor has met the levels for clearance
specified in the plans and specifications. EEC looks forward to
working with the engineer/designer and the lead abatement contractor
to ensure the quality and success of the project.

RADON TESTING
Radon
is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that has no odor, see or taste.
When breath of the air-containing radon is taken, chance of developing
lung cancer is increased, Increase of the risk of developing lung
cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General has warned that radon
is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States
today. If you smoke and your business or home has high radon
levels, your risk of lung cancer is especially high.
The
USEPA offers some maps of areas in the US with rough estimates on
the concentration of radon likely to be experienced. However,
testing is the only way to positively quantify radon in the business
or home. The USEPA, Surgeon General, American Lung Association,
American Medical Association and National Safety Council all recommend
testing for radon.
EEC
will sample the building, provide the analytical results, interpret
the results and if necessary, make recommendations for reducing
the radon levels. We
will also provide a cost estimate for mitigation of radon levels.
